– In English: Valfie was an app that was distributed before the Swedish parliamentary elections, September 14, 2014, with the purpose of supporting the non-socialist Alliansen government (”the Alliance”). It was initiated by Johan Staël von Holstein. The name Valfie is a compound of Swedish val (elections) and selfie. Users of Valfie could create their own election placards using self‑portraits or other images and text. However, opponents of the Alliansen government soon discovered that Valfie could carry the opposite message as well. – While Valfie was spread, Johan Staël von Holstein also ran the crowd-funding campaign Help save Sweden from socialism. Its goal was to raise 150,000 US dollars by August 27, 2014. However, only 877 dollars were raised. – The word valfie is also used for election selfies, for example of somebody holding up his or her voting card. – For more summaries in English, please click on this link.
